thanks anyway this just reinforces the fact that the manfacturers do build stuff earlier or later than what is normally thought. that does not bother me at all what really burns me is the "1 year only" stuff that becomes nearly impossible to get parts for

I picked up a 205 for a NP465 trans the other day. How hard will it be to find an adapter to mate it to a th400?

you will need to know whether you have an male 10spline case or a 32 spline female case

the 10 spline is not compatible with the th400

the 32 spline came in 2 bolt patterns the figure 8 early style and the late round style

the early style was used behind th400 and sm465 and was a short input length

the input stuck out of the t/case about 1.5 inches

you should be able to find this adapter online or at junkyards

the round style was used later on from about mid 1985/86 only in the heavy 1 tons

with long and short 32 spline shafts

and it is going to be harder to find the adapter

Use a ratchet strap and strap it to the jack.

Some parts stores will rent out trans jacks.

Where at in washington are you?

I've used wood to build a cradle to use a floor jack to lift the tcase into place.
