| I still run a stock longbed like yours with 35's but I trimmed "pie slices" out of my wheelwell entry points. I did not enlarge the whole thing and kept a relatively stock looking body that way. As long as you can keep the tire from catching your wheelwell edges when they stuff the bed will stay intact. I did the same thing on the front fenders and rounded up that drop down in front. Once I made just a little more clearance I didn't have any more issues. If you do make a larger wheelwell you can add fender flares to reduce the giant hole effect. I ditched the saddle tanks and run a Blazer fuel tank in front of the bed with a toolbox over the top and a modified skid plate to protect it from "in the bed" punctures. Haven't had any problems yet. I have also seen some guys lift their saddle tanks up higher on the frame so they tuck.

If all you want is room for some 40's, thats just a little trimming. A 40" spare will have to go inside the bed. There is not enough room for it under the bed. For a gas tank, I'm presuming you want to get rid of the saddle tanks. You could us a Blazer tank under the back, or something up in the bed. Here is a set of 40's with a 5 or 6 inch lift, and some trimming.

You got pics of this? My saddle tank is currently sitting in the bed with some tie downs lol. I plan on putting 63's in the rear. I wanted to leave the rear mount in place to shorten the wheel base a little. With the 56's in front she is stretched a little. Overall wheel base I want is like 117? ish. I am really undecided | ||||||||||||

| Managed to take a few this afternoon. The Blazer tank is in the bed front under the toolbox. There is halved Suburban skid plate protecting the ass end which is bolted to the toolbox base and bed floor. The spare tire is mounted to that skid. Scott, Nick, and I dropped the tank about 1/2 way through two of the bed supports and still had to stick a square tube between the toolbox and bed rail to get clearance. You cannot cut all the way through the supports without making some type of additional support brace, the supports are what keep the bed rigid. I took conservative slices out of the wheelwell leading and trailing edges. It does fine with 35's and my guess 37's. 40's may be a bit different and require either modified tubs/wheelwells or the simple route of flatbedding. Guess it depends on what kind of look you want and what type of usage it will see. Longbed trucks are longer in wheelbase than Suburbans so tight corners on descents and inclines in rocks make it harder to keep un-squished. You can double click the pics for a larger view.
