== Merged Post ==
Okay progress. I have the front third member locked and geared.
All un needed brackets on the axle have been torched, and I welded the upper gusset in (took my time not to warp housing).
Last night i tore out the old rotors and wheel bearing races. Then drove in new Bearing races, put on new vented rotors, and put on the wheel spacers.
Tonight if i can get time I will try to polish the welds on the axle and paint her up along with the knuckles and steering arms. Once dry I will slap that axle back together.
I will get pics on assembly of the Front axle. I forgot my camera the last few time i worked and I was more worried about progress than pictures.

It seems to me like a SAS is a lot of work. How much time do you figure you'll have in the project?

Actual working hours as of now about 20 hours or so. that includes disassembly of the axle, gearing and locking the third member, prepping and welding on the axle, all the good stuff with outers such as rotors, bearings and races. Yeah its time consuming, but i enjoy working on my truck. I dont have a time limit and its not my daily driver so that helps a ton.
Swapping the front will take long after i cut off my IFS, i have to grinding all the bracketry off to make a smooth finish. I dont like my shit looking HACK.
I will get pics of the axle going together, as i tore it all apart for paint. I want to put as much toyota tech as i can on here for you guys!

More tech sounds good!

Maybe it's not as bad as I thought. I think I have a lot more hours than that into my suspension mods this winter. I've thought about building a newer 4-door Tahoe and that would invole a SAS. So I'm curious about the work involved even if it isn't the same vehicle, I'm sure many of the principles are the same.

Okay more tech. The previous pics of gear pattern was with setup bearings and the pinion depth was off when the new bearing was pressed on. Anyways i had decided to run it fubbared than i sadi fuck it i want it right. these pics are curret pics of the pattern.
Order of pictures are:
freshly painted housing with axle gusset welded in and ready for assembly
freshly painted steering knuckles
rebuilt/repainted factory aisin locking hubs
new fj rotors on Stock wheel hubs and wheel spacers to even track width with rear axle
remainder of parts to go back on/in the axle, spindle, dust sheild, shafts, etc.
Coast side pattern good imo
drive side pattern good one too.
a pretty 4cyl. thrid with a quicklock and 5.29 yukon gears properly setup.

Progress. Got trunion bearings packed full of grease, Painted and installed my High Steer arms on the knuckles (arms holds the kingpin/trunion pin), torqued them all down with new rubbers and seals on the backside of the knuckle.
I then installed my 3rd member in for good(sealed with the right stuff).
Tomm I will put in shaft, put on spindles, outers and possibly the lockouts and tie rod

Good looking job. I like it when swaps look like the are done on purpose. Dig the gussets.
